sankofa bird

The “Sankofa” is a metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana, generally depicted as a bird with its head turned backward taking an egg from its back. It expresses the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress.  What poem or speech inspires you to reflect on your history and helps to provide direction for your successful future?

About

At Success Academy at Knotts, we believe all students have the talent and potential to succeed. Each student is provided with an individualized educational environment that addresses the social and academic challenges that they faced in a traditional school. All students receive an intake interview; this allows staff to meet with the student and parents to set expectations and give students ownership of their success. Students are then moved to a classroom with a small student-to-teacher ratio, allowing students to excel academically. Although Knotts is an alternative to the traditional classroom, students are still held to the same academic assessments and goals as all KCPS schools.
